Rob and Marni Timmerman
Co-Founders of Creating Possibilities for Kids
Rob and Marni Timmerman were both born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and have been married for 3 years. Together, they have established Creating Possibilities for Kids to be a resource for children that grow up in a home wherein one or both parents have a disability. This unique organization has no parallel. While there are currently organizations developed for support of children and parents with disabilities, another organization designed specifically to meet the needs of children that help provide care for a parent with a disability has not been found. The idea for Creating Possibilities for kids came to Marni as sort of an epiphany and even an answer to prayers.
Marni was born by way of a small miracle. Mark, her father was paralyzed in a diving accident at the age of 15. The accident left him as an incomplete quadriplegic, and although he lost the use of his arms and legs, his good looks and flirtatious personality were only amplified. Mark met and married Sharen and together, they were able to bear three miracle babies. Growing up, the three rambunctious kids were a great help to Mark and were able to use some of their energy in serving him.
Marni, the middle child and oldest daughter certainly has led an adventurous life. Many of her adventures were just a little bit different from other kids as she and her family often had to adjust activities to accommodate her father’s wheelchair. It is her experience that inspires us to help create possibilities for other kids who are growing up in a family just like hers.
Professionally, Marni has been involved with a number of non-profit organizations including the Utah Family Center and the Utah Federation for Youth and has served a variety of children and families. She has several certifications in child development programming and has taught development courses in English and Spanish. Marni minored in Spanish and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Utah. She is a natural caregiver and because of her background, has great compassion and empathy for children everywhere.
Rob also has experience working in the non-profit arena. He spent several years with a public employee labor association working with numerous state and local government agencies and officials and has done contract work for the Utah Federation for Youth. In May 2003, Rob graduated from the University of Utah with Bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Behavioral Science and Health. He also has experience in promotions and marketing gained from working in the Salt Lake radio market for four years. He has volunteered with youth as a little league football coach and has been involved in an after school program for refugee boys.
Rob and Marni enjoy spending time with each other in the outdoors, cycling, and just hanging around. They have had many adventures together including completing the Salt Lake Marathon and Spudman Triathlon, backpacking through rainforests and river rafting in Central America. While growing up, both Rob and Marni were involved in athletics and music and continue to participate when as time allows.
